POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Information Security
The Institute has postgraduate programmes in IT areas as well as IT applied to domain areas.
IT Areas
The graduate programmes in CSE and VLSI aim at producing high quality IT professionals with specialization in selected areas. The programmes are designed such that a student can complete them based on advanced coursework alone. However, the students are given the facility to concentrate on a problem by substituting some of the courses with equivalent project work.
M.Tech Programme in CSE:
The objective of the two-year M.Tech programme in CSE is to produce postgraduates with advanced knowledge in one or more areas of Computer Science. The first year of the M.Tech. programme is aimed at providing the necessary breadth in Computer Science and at integrating the students with the instructional philosophy of the Institute. The subsequent semesters aim at providing avenues for specializing in one or more of the streams.
MTech in VLSI & Embedded Systems
This postgraduate programme allows a student to specialise in VLSI design. VLSI circuits for communication and signal processing are given high preference. Thrust areas are low power design, hardware and software verification, VLSI tool design, and hardware realization of cryptographic algorithms. Students are also provided in-depth knowledge in Embedded Systems with emphasis on compiler optimization for ILP processors, design and development of a hand-held PDAs, and internet-enabled devices.
IT and Domain Areas
There is a growing need for experts who have knowledge in IT as well as the domain in which the IT solutions are to be developed. These programmes aim at preparing high quality IT professionals for a global market by grooming them in IT and soft skills, and providing an opportunity not only to IT professionals but also to professional and experts from non-IT domains to acquire a thorough knowledge of IT concepts and the capacity to swiftly translate this knowledge into products or services in their respective domains. We have postgraduate programmes in the following interdisciplinary areas:
M.Tech in Computer Aided Structural Engineering:
This is a two year programme which offers courses in Structural Engineering with emphasis on industrial applications. The courses engage in a comprehensive study of computer applications for advanced structural analysis and design. Students can choose earthquake engineering as a stream for specialisation. In addition to the domain structural courses, relevant computer science courses will also be offered. Students also need to do a project by taking up an industry oriented problem in their final semester.
MTech in IT-Building Science:
Building Science is a synthesis of Civil Engineering and Architecture. It involves all stages of building design – right from formulation of the concept, preparation of drawings, execution of work to maintenance and demolition of buildings. The building should have structural integrity, functional efficiency and aesthetics, and should provide quality environment for the occupants. Such buildings would be affordable, energy efficient, comfortable, safe, responsive to inhabitants and provide a healthy environment.
Introduction of computer techniques, new construction methods and approaches in building design, earthquake loadings and need for conservation of energy has created a demand for professionals who have specialized training in creating new building systems. This calls for a specialized course which provides a deep understanding of the building process and the existing and emerging IT tools.
The M.Tech. (IT in Building Science) is an interdisciplinary programme open to graduates from the fields of architecture and civil engineering. The students, after successful completion of the program, have an in-depth knowledge in building science to handle problems in planning, design and implementation of the building science projects.
Some tools used in this programme are Matlab, Simulink, Labview, Lumen Micro, Radiance, Rayfront, Energy Plus, DOE, Energy-10, Fire Dynamics Simulator, STAAD, CATIA, ANSYS.
MSIT in BioInformatics:
Bioinformatics is a rapidly developing interdisciplinary area that may be defined as the interface between biological and computational sciences in addition to large scale data management and data processing issues. This scientific field deals with computationally diverse biological information which may be about genes, their structures and their products.
MSIT in Bioinformatincs is a two-year programme, which aims at creating manpower capable of catering to the cutting edge IT requirements for Bioinformatics research and development.
The curriculum involves IT courses, bioinformatics courses, soft skill courses and a large number of electives. Self paced “learning by doing” approach along with a major emphasis "research oriented project” are the special features of this programme. From 2004, MSIT programme will be run under the aegis of Outreach Division of IIIT.
PG Diploma in Computational Linguistics:
This one-year programme trains the students in computational aspects of language processing. It prepares them to develop data and rules for machine translation, information extraction, parsing, word sense disambiguation, lexical semantics etc. On completion, students may take up jobs in this area or undertake research. This programme is specially designed for linguists, language, scholars, Sanskrit scholars and the likes. Students with a science or mathematics background desirous of undertaking studies in analytical or computational study of language are also welcome.
